Discuss this plan

The calculation, in plain English.

  1. Multiply monthly electricity use by 12 to estimate annual consumption.
  2. Apply the percentage of annual use you want to model.
  3. Divide that target by the annual solar yield to estimate the array size, rounded to 0.1 kW.
  4. Multiply the rounded system size by the yield for modelled generation, then by the energy value for annual energy value.

Example: 900 kWh per month × 12 × 80% ÷ 1,100 kWh/kW gives approximately 7.9 kW. At the example energy value of CA$0.16/kWh, modelled annual generation of 8,690 kWh has an annual energy value of approximately CA$1,390.

What changes the real result?

Local sunlight, roof pitch and orientation, shade, snow, equipment losses, roof space, utility limits and your consumption profile affect the design. The default yield and energy value are editable illustrative inputs, not province-specific estimates.

The model does not account for installation cost, taxes, financing, degradation, maintenance, battery losses, export-credit rules or fixed utility charges. It does not calculate payback or promise a bill reduction.

Use a site-specific model before deciding.

Bring electricity statements and property details to a qualified installer. Ask for the assumptions, equipment and exclusions in writing, and check the applicable utility programme directly.
